MIA is the product of a deep collaboration between world-leading clinical researchers and a purpose-built AI platform — combining specialist mental health expertise with modern agentic AI infrastructure.
Two organisations, one shared mission — combining clinical depth with engineering rigour to build AI systems clinicians can trust.
AI-Applied expertise for personalised mental health care
The Brain and Mind Centre (BMC) is a multidisciplinary research institute at the University of Sydney, internationally recognised for pioneering translational research in youth and adult mental health. Led by Professor Ian Hickie AO, the BMC has developed evidence-based frameworks that underpin Australia's national approach to mental health staging and assessment.
The BMC's multidimensional clinical framework — covering domains from mood and anxiety through to social and occupational functioning — provides the clinical reasoning foundation that MIA encodes. Their two decades of validated instruments, clinical guidelines, and treatment protocols across care levels 1–5 form MIA's Knowledge Bank.
UNCAPT is an Australian AI company that builds agentic AI systems for specialist-grade decision support. UNCAPT's platform provides the infrastructure layer that powers MIA — including the OODA-based reasoning engine, the expert training platform used by clinicians to encode their reasoning, and the secure Azure-hosted cloud environment that meets healthcare data standards.
UNCAPT's role is to translate the BMC's clinical expertise into a production-grade AI system — handling the engineering of conversational assessment, real-time domain scoring, completeness auditing, and care plan generation, while ensuring the clinician remains in the loop at every stage.
We welcome collaboration with research institutions, healthcare providers, and technology partners.
